I want to do a lighter wash with some Homer Dangler stains. What should be used to dilute them?

I would think you could use denatured alcohol, as its an alcohol based stain. Not sure, was wondering myself. That's what I was going to try. I'm playing with ferric nitrate crystals and alcohol for my current C. Hawkenesque build. Try it on some scrap and let us know as Homers stains will be plan B!

Denatured alcohol. The Ferric Nitrate disolved in denatured alcohol works well too..... doesn't raise whiskers like water does. Couldn't tell any real difference in color on tests i did.....if anything the alcohol mix looked clearer..

I have a bottle of very thinned med brown I use to hunt flaws in the finish before final staining. I thin it with alcohol.

Ken, Never thought of that, that would be a good way to find flaws. My eyes would be in better shape if I only knew years ago. :)

I use a greatly diluted dose of alcohol stain from the first stain to be applied to "ferret out" all those "unseeables". Lately this has been Klein's orange toner....Fred
