Title: Emery Duck Tape
Post by: Ephram on July 03, 2011, 06:25:28 PM
I hope that some of you will find this useful - it may be standard practice, but it's relatively new to me. I started using this when I ran out of emery cloth one day. I backed sandpaper with duck tape and cut strips of it as a substitute. I find it more effective to emery cloth, because the duck tape is  stretchy and it conforms very well to various shapes.

Hi Ephram,

Welcome to ALR.  That's a pretty nifty tip and one that I will use for sure.  Looks like the flintlock in the background is well along.  You know we'll be wanting to see some pictures when she's finished.

This will allow very narrow strips to be used.

If it's not supposed to move, Duct tape, if it needs to move use WD-49.  Simple as that.  Great idea thanks, and welcome to the forum.

Great tip!  We're pullin' for ya, cause we're all in this together!

We don't get Red Green on the local PBS anymore either, but I did get a collection of Red Green DVDs for Christmas!  Woo-HOO!  One of the best gifts I've ever recieved!  Anyone else ever notice the change in the background noises coinciding with the changes in Canadian law?

Enjoyed Ole Red Green way down here in Mississippi  ;D  Well I did even if the wife did not see the humor in it.

My Favorite Part......

I'm a man....

But I can change....

If I have too....

I Guess.

I think that's the part she liked least.  ::)

Oh BTW - Pretty good tip about the duck tape.

Pretty good stuff. remember a fold-up kitchen table - in case you needed the kitchen floor to gut a moose.
Back to the tip.  I'll try the duck tape sandpaper trick.  Sounds like a good way to sand spindles on a lathe too.
Regards,
Pletch

I try to live by great word of wisdom found in the Possum Lodge motto.

Quando omni flunkus, moritati. (Translation: When all else fails, play dead.) ...

I introduced many a friend to the folks at Possum Lodge over the years.  If you have never seen the show it is worth finding it for a viewing.

I think we should have a contest to see who can incorporate the most duct tape into a muzzleloader and then send it to Red.  It is, after all, "the handyman's secret weapon." ;D
