Title: Making Screw Plates
Post by: Caintuckrifle on February 20, 2016, 12:27:38 AM
I would like to make a traditional screwplate, does anyone have have a tutorial or information on this? As far as I understand it I can tap a plate and harden it, or is there more to it? Thanks for the help! Caintuck

I made this very simple screwplate years ago to make modern thread screws in the field.  It is really not very sophisticated at all.  The material is 1095 carbon steel, hardened, tempered, but I don't remember the temper heat.  It does work OK.
