Hello all, and Happy Thanksgiving. My bud Bob W just scored this old longrifle. I will get more pics shortly, these are from phone.
Barrel is 3/4 x 38/40 cal, long and slim looks Bedford or Ohio. Always percussion.Marked clearly on top of barrel I M ,some very light fancy scratching on the barrel. Needin a good bit of help,and it is in the right place for that.
Ok,here is more info and pics.We took some pics outside in grey light,and last ones inside.
Specs are LOP 12 1/2"
OAL 50"
Drop 4 1/2"
Barrel
3/4"x34 x .30.
Gun is light and comes to popint naturally and quickly.
Engraving/wiggle walk on top barrel flat and some on sides.
Marked JM
Curly maple wood.
Several repairs as pics show.

If it looks Bedfordish. It could be JM for Joseph Mills or Jacob Mier. Patchbox has a little Mier look to it. John Matthesiee used
an elongated buttplate like this one too. I've seen a lot of Mills work and never saw a buttplate like that on any of his.

Thanks Bud and Shrech. I will get more camera pics next time I go to Bobs. The overall gun has a very bedfordish look to it.\The initials could be J M.
Bob got this at a local gunshow last Saturday,for 250.00 and a new pouch was included. That ol boy could bargain down a Scotsman !!!
He has all the skills necessary to bring it back to life,correctly.
Once he gets his left shoulder repaired soon.
