This is an interesting rifle. Has some attributes of a southern made rifle and some of a Missouri style plains rifle. .56 caliber, walnut half stock, all iron furniture with a patent (hook) breach. What do y'all think?

I would not be surprised to find that rifle made in St. Louis for the western trade...a plains rifle.
-
I also go with a "plains" rifle.

I vote for it being a Plains Rifle. There were lots of them made in the upper Midwest, and by no means just in St. Louis.

It follows a pretty typical form of plains rifles coming out of PA. The Slotterbek (slotterbeck, slotter)brithers come to mind as pretty prolific makers that built guns twin to that one. Usually the slotterbek guns are marked "slotter and bro" in a little inverted V on the top flat. Sometimes they will be marked with the distributor they were being made for ie AJ Plate. That gun really looks like a slotterbek which is why I had mentioned it when emailing. All the best
