Title: incised or not

trying to build a Bucks County rifle that of John Shuler from R.C.A volume 1 page 274. the carving behind cheek piece, my question is most of the carving low relief or incised ?

Looks like low relief carving on both sides of the gun and on the tang. A beautiful gun to emulate in smoothbore or rifle!

I should say that I have never seen the gun in person, but looking at the pics in RCA think that what looks like relief carving is wire inlay instead. In fact if you look closely at the pictures you can see a lot of wire inlay where there would normally be incised carving.
I've only had about a half dozen Bucks rifles in hand and all have been incised carved, with no relief carving.
Guess I should say never say never, but that's my experience.

 it looks to me like low relief and incised craving but that just me, been slugging away at this practicing the carving

Well, it's not going to hurt anyone's feelings for you to build your gun any way you want it.
