Post by: Cory Joe Stewart on June 01, 2019, 12:18:40 AM
Havnt posted anything in a while. So you dont think Im stuck up here ya go. Current project is inspired by an original.  13 inch .62 barrel. Chambers early Germanic lock.  Barrel and lock are in. Triggers are in but need some adjusting.

I must say that I would be nervous to shoot so short of a rifle.  I do like it, would definitely be a fast moving single arm horseback bore killer though. Looking forward to seeing progress and use updates.

Being as long armed as I am, and the way I have aleays shot. Take a bit of retraining to ensure my off hand stayed way clear. Kinda like shooting a short right handed flintlock south paw. Ensure I didn't get any parts in the way.

But it is an inspiration to get back to my short barreled Leman style build.

That has crossed my mind.  I original plan included a sling, but a dropped that idea.

Thanks

A sling could be interesting for sure. How about a chest type holster like a bear pistol?

I like that muzzle treatment. Is the original done like that? Look forward to seeing it finished.

Great Jimminy Crickets, Corey!
When I saw "short barreled rifle", I was thinking, OK, be about 23-24", that'll be fine.

THIRTEEN INCHES!  Wowser!

Inspiring project you have going, and I think we will see a few more of these before summer is over.  Is that a walnut stock?  Do you maybe have plans for some checkering on the grip and forestock?

Please keep us up to date on this.  And as others, I do like the muzzle treatment.  Hmmmmm - wonder how my Hawken will look with this?

Thanks Craig,
Yes it is Walnut.  I don't plan on checkering, but there will be some carving.

I like the muzzle work a lot.  Anxious to see the finished gun.

Have shot my Paget flint carbine, .65 cal  14" long barrel. It can do a job on one's left ear - take care

I built one based on the same original. Didn't copy but made my own style. Forged BP from sheet brass. Used a Green Mtn 54 cal pistol bbl and L & R Manton lock. Love the little thing. Everyone who sees it calls it "cute". I'll post pics later.
