The Kentucky Rifle Foundation will be presenting a display of "Jacob Dickert" rifles at this years Eastern Pa. Longrifle show Sept. 13th. & 14th.
There are six plus early rifles committed to the display with more expected to show up. RCA#49 was coming but owner had to cancel but RCA#66 and two similar to RCA#68.
Believe this to be the largest coming together of "Dickert" rifles to date. If you're coming to the show and own a "Dickert" rifle please bring it.
To understand the importance of Jacob Dickert and the relevance his creation had on America in it's early days, read Scott Gordons 2013 article. As Scott stated, in much of the frontier a longrifle was referred to as a "Dickert".
I encourage all to come out and enjoy the interaction/conversation and wonderful antique arms.
We are a shrinking fraternity so supporting all efforts to maintain and grow our numbers are paramount. Thanks to Dennis and ALR for your contributions to this issue

I wonder if Peter Best was predecessor of Israel Best the west PA gunsmith?

Who is Peter Best? Or where does his name appear?

Great looking rifles, thanks for posting the pictures.
If I may ask, how did you get access to the photos?
-
I just photographed them today

He is listed as a blacksmith in the immigrant entrepreneurship link you posted earlier. I just wonder if he
might also have been a gunsmith or parts maker in the longrifle world.

Mac, you are a fortunate individual.
-
Additional rifles on display for everyone attending to study up close.
All three makers are of the FI & Rev period. I think all have be photographed and are on the KRF's CDs

Yes Mac is fortunate but he has put in over 10 years of hard work running the Eastern PA Longrifle show, http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=54812.0 lots of work to keep a show like this running.
Unfortunately I have only been able to attend but one of these shows. I saw some great original rifles there. Well worth your time to attend if you are able.

Well, Mac is to be commended, as I'm quite sure he has been, by his fellow collectors for that tremendous effort and 10 year record of success.
I used to get involved in the New England Antique Arms Society's shows to a very small extent. It can be almost a year around job for the organizers.
-
This is a great show to attend and I look forward to attending each year. Mac does an outstanding job running it.
-
Agreed, great show. On my calendar every fall.
-
Just received word that Kindig #6 will be in the "Early Rifle Display"
-
Looks like we'll be able to get our kicks with RCA 66 (and others)! ;)
Looking forward to my first time to take in this show.
Thanks for posting,
Kevin

Kindig #9 not #6 will be in display
Sorry

Mac, your show is excellent. I look forward to it every year, and would highly encourage anyone who can make it to attend.
-
I was able to attend the show today and it was really something to see. The Dickert display was amazing! There were also two Andreas Albrecht rifles there along with many others. If you have the chance to get there on Saturday to see this, I highly recommend going. There aren't many opportunities to examine so many fine rifles like this show provides.
-
Hopefully, some kind person has taken photos (if permitted) at the show, to share with us unfortunates who could not attend!
-

Which rifles are these? How many Albrecht rifles are there? One, the lion and lamb rifle (attributed to Albrecht), is at an auction house in Lancaster County at present. Another possible Albrecht, the twin to the Edward Marshall rifle, is at the Moravian Historical Society in Nazareth, PA, and the Marshall rifle itself is at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA.
Which two Albrechts were at this other show?
-
Went to show Fri. it was great.
If you build or love longrifles you need to attend this show, as you can handle many
rifles that are pictured in the books.
Gus :)

Excellent show, well worth the trip

The auction house had a display at the show. The lion and the Lamb was there and also the Albrecht with the two tailed dog was there.

I got permission from Mac to post a few pictures from the show. Sorry they came out so dark.

I wish the pictures came out better, but they give an idea of what was there. There were a lot of quality rifles there, these were just the ones that I had permission to post. I have some better ones from the Dickert display if I can get them from my phone to the computer.

I think all of these surviving pieces are absolutely wonderful and I especially think the current owners who permit them to be displayed for the rest of us are also wonderful.
This being said, I think a fairly strong case could be made for the Lion/Lamb being an early Oerter rifle and I do not think the two tailed dog is a CS rifle at all - I think it's a period, regional (Northampton County) 'copy' of what was likely a style for a couple of years in the 1760s.
The gunshop at CS was not the only place manufacturing arms in Northampton County in the 1760s. Within such a regional , tight market, one has to assume that everyone working in the trade was surely aware of what each other was doing, and subsequently making what was 'stylish' to sell.
JMHO! For the sake of conversation.

Many thanks to UTSEABEE & MAC for the pictures from the show!
Both of you are Gentlemen and Scholars.

Mac puts a lot of hard work into this show each year and does an outstanding job organizing it. The people who have the tables there and the KRA members are very gracious to allow us the opportunity to examine and handle their rifles. I had no involvement with the show and just asked Mac's permission to post pictures. All of those pictures were from the KRA display. I am just a patron of the show who goes to enjoy all of the original longrifles and learn about them. I really appreciate the fact that we have people who are willing to share their property and knowledge with the rest of us.

I don't have enough knowledge to have an opinion on this, but I love those rifles. I'll be curious to see any replies to it.
-
I love them too and I think they're probably two of the most interesting American rifles of any period. They check all the boxes in terms of quality, architecture and decorative symbolism.

Thanks for these photos (for taking them and taking the time to post all of them)--and it looks like it was an amazing show, which I wish I hadn't missed.
I also think it is a great service of the owners of these rifles to make them available for folks to look it. Very grateful for that.
Thanks for the reply regarding the Albrechts--I didn't realize that Morphy's had taken the lion/lamb there. Fantastic.
-
I also took some photos of the different display and they will be posted in the near future on the Facebook page of the Kentucky Rifle Foundation.

Thanks for the "heads up", looking forward to seeing them.
