Montana Historical Gunmakers Guild
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:10:25 PM »
The Montana Historical Armsmakers Guild held their annual Guild Fair August 13-15. About 3 dozen members and guests attended.
Bill Madden conducted a 2 day carving class, there were short presentations by Don King, Bruce Benedict, Jean Pace and Dan Phariss.

We had visitors from Kentucky, Wyoming and Utah.
Steve Garbe headed the Wyoming visitors and also was the representative of the CLA.
The Guild Fair featured a display of 18 of Don Kings works spanning about 30 years including a rifle made in 1959 and a highly decorated swivel breech rifle.

Randy Cochran brought along his H. House squirrel rifle for display.

Underhammer swivel breech pistol.

Don King copied an original rifle to make this Kentucky in 1959.

Carnie and Jean Pace visited from Utah. Jean gave a short talk on quill work and displayed some of her very impressive work.

Thank you for the pictures!  I enjoyed them all.  There were some outstanding looking rifles; some REAL talent and knowledge gathered.

Dan,
Thanks for the pictures.  Looks like another reason for a return visit to Montana!

Thanks for posting, good to see you have a thriving guild there.  Did I just read about you guys in Muzzeloader Magazine?

Yes. We hope to do a followup with pictures of the guns at the fair some of which were very impressive.
We are also proud to be affiliated with the CLA now.

Glad to see you all take the Dixon to Oregon to Washington idea and shift it slightly to fit your needs.
Keep up the good work.

Wish more groups would form in their own states and keep spreading the word about gun building.

We had a great time in Washington last weekend with Wallace Gusler giving a class and talk to us.
We've temporarily stopped our winter conclave but I hope we can revive it pretty soon.

Hi Dave

We really need a regional show in the west similar to the CLA Show. There are a lot of contemporary makers out here in the west and we need a larger venue than just our individual Guild Fairs.

The horners are working on just such a regional show for their activity.  If it comes to pass maybe it could be expanded to cover gun making also.  I have no idea as to who might be capable of organizing such a show.
