New Horns

Thought I'd post pictures of a couple of horns made for this weekends Gunmakers Fair in Washington.
First is an applied tip horn of no particular school. The maple butt is countersunk to capture the horn. The butt is stained with Lancaster Maple stain. The horn is natural.





The next is a banded horn with a beehive plug stained with aquafortis. The bands were dyed with Rit.

Great horns.  I like the way you lined up the pegs in the bands,i didn't notice that before.

The wire I usually use is 1/16 welding wire. Lots of that in the shop. I burn the copper coating off and usually flatten the wire a bit with a hammer. I didn't take time for that on this one.

The Southern banded horn was made to present to Ian Pratt. The night before the presentation the band at the tip was found cracked. I took it home that night and made a new band for it. After 3 bands I came up with a good one and got it done for the evening presentation. Here's a couple of pictures of the modified horn.
