small drill support

I was thinking back to one of the Gun Makers fairs I attended that had a fellow by the name of Cliff Noll give us some great pointers on shop practice. One that sticks in my mind was the use of a support block when drilling with fine drill bits. You've all experienced this. You have one of the fine wire gage bits and trying to drill a hole and the bit starts to bend and even is some cases break. Cliff talked about making a block support for the drill bit which is nothing more than a hard wood block that has a notch cut into it that the drill bit will rest in while you are drilling your hole. It can be made of aluminum if you wish and takes a bit more work to open up the side of the drilled hole to get the hole exposed in the block. Obviously you can use a hack saw to notch the block as well each face can have a different size drill notch in it so you can flip it around to support the bit in use.
