Mike Brooks gun building tutorial
« on: May 01, 2014, 11:58:07 PM »
Mike Brooks, one of our members, has given ALR permission to make available a tutorial that he made back in 2007. Its the best tutorial that I have seen online and I feel sure you will learn something from it. I will leave it here in the Gunbuilding forum for a few days then we will move it over to our tutorial forum.

If you enjoy this tutorial please feel free to add a reply to this topic and let him know. He spent many hours putting it together and certainly deserves our thanks for allowing ALR to add it to our tutorial forum.

Hi Dennis,
Mike's tutorial is a great asset for this forum.  He is such a skilled maker and he, perhaps more than most professional makers, is living the old trade.  I am a fan of his work and appreciate his contribution to our tutorials.

Much obliged. Excellent! Love that rifle. Got to see the original a few years ago (the brass barreled gun) and was amazed how thick it was through the butt stock and how pronounced the cheek rest was. The kind of thing you don't get from one dimensional photographs.

I am glad to see Mike's tutorial here as well.  It helped me get started in gun building and it remains a great reference tool.  Probably the most complete one there is!  Thanks Mike!

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I've read Mike's tutorial over and over again, and enjoy the read every time.  The www is a big place in spite of it being accessible to all.  This tutorial seems more at home here.
