That James Rogers, like me, loves old stuff ;D

Looks like someone saved a nice pair of back action locks from a Manton double barrel.

Here are a couple of Mantons that I own.  The 1st is marked Manton like your locks, but has a pheasant motif indicating it's an upland game gun.  The 2nd is marked J. Manton and has engraving similar to yours.

Hi James,
I suspect that Bob is right.  Real Manton's by the elder John and Joe, and any of their sons or relatives were usually signed with a first initial and then the name "Manton", or no initial and  "Manton & Son", or "Manton & Co.", including the Mantons working in India.

Thanks guys. That was my assumption. I am most curious as to the approximate date. Wondering if these are a little later than the style dictates.
Nice to see them as a pair and working though.

Actually, both of the guns I pictured have London proofs, and both are marked London Fine Twist on the ribs and one is serial numbered 644 on the under rib.
