 Out here you can't have a rear sight on a smoothbore musket you intend to shoot in competition. So adding a rear sigh is not an option.

I don't shoot competition so guess that's why I didn't get it.  Gotcha now.

By all means- if not shooting competition, a rear sight, properly filed in will increase your accuracy potential and make sighting much easier.

When I want to ring that gong at the end of our trail (109 yds) I see my entire front sight plus the same amount of barrel above the wedding band at the transition.  The tip of the front sight is in the centre of the disc target.  Follow through is critical.
