Rice A Weight 40 Cal

Who here might be Shooting an A Weight Rice 40 Cal 44" long Barrel ? how do you like the Accuracy and feel of the Gun ?

Can't answer the question - sorry.  But I have a "B" weight Rice .40 cal on my Kuntz rifle and Ilove it.  the rifle is fine and delicate - like a bird - and weighs 8.5 pounds.  It holds and shoots wonderfully.  I'd think the "A" weight would be too light for my taste.

ive got shoulder problems and need a lighter rifle. thats why im pondering an A weight. but was wondering if accuracy would be good with the lighter barrel. Thanks

 I have a Beyer rifle w/ that barrel. It's a one hole shooter w/ 40 gr. 3f .390 ball & .015 patch greased. Loads easy too!

I have one being made now.  I hope to have it sometime in December.  I am sure I will like it after handling one that a friend of mine has.  Light and dainty is a good description for the A weight Rice 40 cal, 44 inch swamped barrel.

 The accuracy will likely be the same between A and B weights.  The difference will be how still it will hold for the shooter.  Physical problems are another consideration.  You have to shoot whatever will work for you.  I have a 42" 3/4" .30cal. that is really light.  Shoots fine, but holding it still can be a challenge.

i know what you mean about holding steady, im use to an 8 1/2 to 9 lb rifle. but i think i am going to like the reduced weight. thank you all

Mine is a .40  A weight , but only 42 inches long.   I usually take/use  a rest i.e. branch or tree etc when hunting so the light weight doesn't factor in as far as holding steady.   I love the rifle, and it is super accurate.

You will like the light weight.  With a good lock it isn't that much of a factor.

I have a .36 cal in A weight, 42 inches. It is about as light as they come and quite accurate out to 75 yards, have not shot it beyond that.

I believe my .40 x 38" barrel is a "B" weight as it is quite thick at the breech and muzzle.  It's about 7.5 lbs, holds wonderfully and is plenty accurate.

I've been shooting my Bucks Co rifle with one for the last 5 years and love it. The only accuracy problems I have are with my eyes.

I have one, 44", "A" Wt., Rice in .40cal.. It is very accurate and one of my favorite guns to shoot, targets and the field.

I have used both the A and B weight .40 by 44 inches long and both have shot good.  I like using the A best for the .40 because of the slim profile I get out of the finished rifle.  Both weights seem to shoot  very well, so I didn't have any preference between weight when it comes to the actual shooting.

Isn't Peter's .40 an "A" weight bl?.  It's too light for offhand competition.

I have a NC "Kennedy" rifle with a 44" "A" weight barrel in 40cal. It made a very slender rifle that looks great and shoots well from a rest. It is far too light to shoot offhand. Just won't settle down. Just my experience.

Yes Daryl, Peter's rifle is an "A" weight Getz bbl.  And only 42" long.  The rifle weighs 6 lbs 11.36 oz.  Neil's (Susan's) rifle has the same barrel and is for all intents and purposes, the same weight.  And Neil is deadly with it as you recall.  Too light for me though.

   I have an "A" weight Rice@ 44"s.  I found it a little on the light side but I've become accustomed to it. It's a Tenn. Mtn. rifle with a really quick ignition. The lock is one of Jim's Late Ketland's. When I choke up on the fore end, she "hangs" quite nice.

I'm trying one of rices new Allentown 451/2 A weights in my new rifle I'm having a friend build ,I like A weight barrels I have three in rifles now ,they all shoot better than me!!!

I have a .40 built on an A weight 42". It is a little light for offhand shooting, but an extra 2" on the end might help.

I have a .36 cal Rice in the "A" profile, 44 inches long. I don't use that rifle for competitions, as I wanted it strictly as a light weight small game hunting rifle. I can carry it all day without pain or fatigue to my arms or shoulders (one of each has been broken it the past and now give me trouble), and it will still reliably head shoot Montana squirrels ( think...really small) at 40+ yards.
  Upper East Tenn flinter, with over the comb tang.
