My condolences to the Getz family. Don was so friendly and interested in any currents builds. He was a source of inspiration and will be missed. I always looked forward to talking with him at Bushy Run or Dixon's. Rest in peace, Don, you will be missed.

Yes - Don will live on in our hearts - a wonderful man indeed - so friendly with all, always smiling - so blessed to have met and talked with him at Dixon's and as we sat in the shade on the bench near the gun shop, on the estate - at the pig BQ - names escape me at this time.

How sad. My prayers go out to his family.
I only knew Don through this website, but we PM each other a few times. We
Joked about him retiring from making barrels only to take up building guns. At
That time he had built over 70 and had orders for 6 or 7 more. He said retirement
Was the best job he ever had. I asked him what he did to relax? He told me every Thursday
Evening him and some of his good friends got together to shoot trap.

Sad, sad news indeed. I too enjoyed talking with Don at various shows, and reading his often humorous contributions here at ALR. Donny will truly be missed.... The number of folks who have written here about their experiences with Don is a testament to his popularity, and the impact he had on all our lives.

Don was a great friend and I'll miss him a lot! Began buying barrels from him about '82 and over time a real friendship developed. In the early 90's Don and Gail came to visit us in Texas and I took him on a real mule deer hunt in the Texas Panhandle. Now I had hunted that ranch a long time and seen some darned nice deer but this first timer nailed the largest buck we ever took, over 30" spread. Was he ever proud of it! Me too!

What a gentleman! Goodbye, friend......

I could always count on a friendly "Hey Kenny" any time I ran into Don. He always offered his encourangment and was a pleasure to be around. I'll never forget two years ago he stopped by my booth at the CLA show and after the familiar greeting he was talking about how much he like the finish and other aspects of the guns. As he was turning to leave to said "it's to bad it's wasted on such ugly guns" Don was not a big fan of Hudson Valley Fowlers. I laughhed all day about that and still think of it often. It's one of the things I'll miss the most about Don and that's you could always tell what he was honestly thinking. I feel bad for John, you could always tell how much they enjoyed each others company by watching there interactions at the shows. He'll miss his good friend. Don passed away to soon I didn't have a chance to meet him and buy one his rifles, even though I'm broke I would have gotten a M.0. order up somehow an bought one of his Shimmel? (sp) rifles in .45 caliber. I bet everyone that bought an then sold one of his rifles is regretting it now. You will never see one of his rifles up for sale now which is a crying shame as they are very beautiful. I am very sorry to hear this. I only met Don a few times and i could tell he was a gentleman. He breeched a Parris barrel for me a few years back. It wasn't till then that I found out that he had bought Parris barrels to start the fabulous Getz barrel company. What an influence he has been on our sport, he will be missed not only for his craftsmanship but as a friend.

To his family, Celeste and I are very sorry for your loss.

Been out of town and just read on another site. I'm very sorry to hear this and my condolences go out to Gail, John and family. I missed him at the Pennsylvania chunk shoot this Summer at Singer's, he's usually there. Speaking of which, I also read that Don Singer is gravely ill. The two Dons were quite a pair.

As always seems the case, the best of the best are taken from us far too soon. Don's legacy will, however, live on for many years to come. My condolences to the entire Getz family. Thank you for sharing Don with us. Bill
