Jim's Peep Shoot 2015
« on: April 06, 2015, 04:53:06 AM »
Jim held his Peep Shoot today.  He started this in 1998 when he took a break from clearing the junipers for his house location.  There were some marshmallow "peep" candies in the truck, so they set them out and shot at them with muzzleloaders.  We did this today, hitting the ground under the Peep to bounce it away.  This was the tie-breaker, longest bounce won over a shorter one.  My undoing...

There were eight shooters, three of them women and two left-handers.  All shot flintlocks except me, and I still can't see well from the big boys kicking sand in my eyes.  Here is Carole before the wind came up.
Here is Kyne shooting his .69 smoothbore at the black buffalo, then the white turkey.

Jean loading up for the next target.

Neill Fields with his brass-barreled rifle he built.

We had two sets of Peep targets at longer ranges.  There were 18 total targets.  Four of the targets were steel targets across a canyon, more than 100 yards.  The wind came up with gusts to about 25 mph, but we still hit the targets.  Here is Terry shooting.

By now Carole has lost her hat in the wind.

There are four steel targets, very hard to see, level with the top of the bugler, one to the left and two to the right..  Carole hit them with her little .40 I built for her.

Carney shooting a new .40 he just traded into.  He hit all four canyon shots, and got 15 out of 18 to tie me.

Here I am shooting my .54 Jim Bridger Hawken copy I made.  I hit all four canyon shots, but I doubled my charge from 50 grains of Goex 3F to 100 grains of 3F for these shots.  I got 15 out of 18 shots, all the Peeps, but Carney beat my tie because of his longer Peep bounce.  A great time was had by all.
