A close friend of mine has a half-stock percussion rifle with 'Warren&Steel, Albany' on the lock. He wants to sell and asked me for advice. Can any of you advise?

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Sellers has a listing for Warren & Steele, Albany, New York. Lockmaker only.

Back in the day there must have been thousands of lock maker company's supplying the gun making trade. In my pile of parts, I have about 100 original locks or lock plates, both flint and percussion, and none of them have the same makers name, nor are many of them the same size or exactly the same shape.

Posting pictures of your rifle will give us a better chance to try and figure out what you have.
