Unidentified flintlock

John sent me some photos of a rifle he acquired, asking what it is.  I don't know.  It looks like a Pedersoli 1857 Mauser percussion rifle in Dixie's catalog.  Can someone identify this for us, and is it an original or reproduction?




He also asks what caliber it is and if it safe to shoot.  And if so, what ball, powder and charge?  Thanks for your help.

Looks to be an African trade gun. Made mostly in Belgium, few from England and were sold up until the early 20th century.

I'm with Joel on this one. African trade gun, possibly made in Belgium for Century Arms. Dixie sold off the surplus parts used to make these twenty or thirty years ago.

I remember these being offered back in the early 60's in the gun catalogs. I think they were priced around 60 dollars then. I don't think they have gone up in value much.

Looks to have a crown over B.P. proof.  I believe this is an English mark.
