Just out of curiosity, why do you need 7/8-16 Threads? 7/8 ucn is 9, 7/16 nf is 14, and 7/8 unfe is 20. So 7/16-16 would be a special, are you sure that you have a barrel threaded for a special thread? It would seem at least quite unusual, if not downright unlikely.
An M14-1.0 would seem close to what you are asking about. Just askin'.  ???

He is asking for a 7/8" X 16 TPI not a 7/16" X 16 TPI :(.

Sorry, I was thinking 7/8" and typing 7/16". I corrected my post. The question remains, has anyone ever encountered a 7/8-16 breech thread?

Not a standard thread count that I'm aware of. Do you have a barrel with that thread count? Are you sure its American standard, not metric. You'll probably have to have it made.

If it's not metric I can make it for you.
My lathe was made in 1945 and it doesn't have a set-up for cutting metric threads, but about any "American thread" I can cut.  I can turn the stud to any diameter and make about any thread per inch you'd need.

I have a new 7/8x16 tap but no die. It is a U.S.alternate national fine. Also have a 5/8x32
and had a 1/4x80 and sent it to Taylor in Canada to keep until I needed it.Also a number of odd taps and
dies.A 9/64x40 screw I made and sent to someone on this list a while back.

Sorry for my late reply. The barrel maker sent me the wrong dimensions . He was looking at
one number but wrote another. It happens. Thanks guys.

That thread is called a unified national thread. I don't know where you might fined a die but even if you do it will probably be better if you have someone with a lathe to make a breach plug for you. I suspect the die would have to come from England or Europe.

That die can be had from any industrial supply catalog that sells special thread taps and dies.

Give Suzi a call at The Gun Works, Muzzleloading Emporium @ 541-741-4118. I seem to remember some 5/8x16's they had a while back.
