Are we gonna have us another Postal Match this year?
« on: April 12, 2016, 02:45:20 PM »
I know we talked about this over this past winter. Should we start another discussion about it, maybe offer up some new ideas and time frames? I'd like to see us do something along these lines again, perhaps a by-monthly? (May - 25 yards,,, July - 50 yards,,, September - 100 yards), 5 or 10 shots each outing?

I was wondering the same thing CS and was about to ask the same question when I saw your post.  I figured the winter weather dampened everyone's (?) enthusiasm.  At any rate, at least TWO of us are interested in this.

How about we throw out some target ideas and what distance(s) we want to shoot from. I have to head back to work in about 20 minutes, but I'll be thinking on it.

Five of us so far, that's not a bad start. :)

Here in the Lower 48 we have something called "Going Postal" involving guns but I don't think it'd be the
same thing.Seriously, our oldest son Robert M.Roller, after nearly 20 years as a USAF Police Officer retired and got a job
with the USPS in San Antonio,Tx and this week an employee was sent home for threating to kill someone
he was arguing with. Rob's supervisor drew on his law enforcement experience and Rob told him that there was no real way to know about such threats but his experience was that the ones that do the killing don't give much if any warning. So far no problems reported and the loud mouth was called back to work and given a reprimand about making such threats.
Thirty years ago I was a shop supervisor for Polan Industries,an optics maker with Govt. contracts that had reactivated here in Huntington WV and I fire two people for smoking Marijuana in an unused room. The young man threatened me and I told him I was armed(if a Browning 25 is being armed) and to take himself and his girl friend off the property ot the local PD would gladly accommodate my request to do it.

Yeah, I'd love to.  Sign me up.  I need more trigger time.

maybe we scare up some longer shoots too, but I realize not everyone has room to "stretch 'em out".  I can probably go 200, 250 at my "facility".

btw we don't have to actually use usps do we?  ;D

Wade, I don't see why we would have to involve the usps. I think we could go on the honor system and those that can could post a picture with their results. We can consider it a friendly internet match among friends if everyone's okay with this? I sure am. I wouldn't mind seeing some long range side matches. They are fun. I can stretch out to 300 yards where I shoot, but haven't really done any extensive testing at 300.

I thought Taylor would have chimed in by now. He'd like a reason to dust off that "old" .62 Hawken I suspect, after all, it is his ONLY rifle than can threaten my little ladies accuracy.  ::) ;D

Now that our 'long' range is open, we can manage any range you want. We still have 200 meters at out 'town' range.

Bob - if you want to use that little toy .25, you can, but it is the only modern gun allowed. ;)

Here is our old link to the 50, 100, and 200 yard matches we talked about before. It has target the target sizes listed for each distance as we were going to make our own.

You may have to highlight this link and click the "go to" when the box comes up.

I think since we have this, we may as well put it into effect if this is alright with everyone? Of course we'll have to modify the dates.

I'm now thinking (if this is okay with everyone), perhaps we should run the following schedule;

(May, July, September, November, January, March) Report results by the end of each month.

Note; I do realize that many of us live in different parts of the world where we will and won't have decent weather to shoot in, but it should equal out for all on a bi-monthly schedule. Enter when you can and enjoy your time at the firing line.

Sure is a different response to what I got in my winter thread.

I'm in, but I don't own a camera. Can we have an option to take a picture, or send it in?

Long range will kill me and my 73 year old eyes. You guys can see and shoot a target at 200-300 yds with primitive open sights? 100yds is a stretch with me. I limit my hunting to 50 yds and a kill zone is a lot bigger than a bulls eye.

Hi Pete, if you go to the thread titled;

MAY 2016 Bi-Monthly Shooting Matches

there is a schedule posted. Also, follow the link posted there and it will give the target (with sizes required) for 50, 100, and 200 yards, along with the rules.

Posting a picture of your target with your score is fine, (and the picture is optional). We do make our own targets for each range we enter and shoot from.

I can break down and buy a cheap camera.  ;D

I don't take pictures of anything I do, but this is a good reason.

My 50 yard target is ready to go also. Was going to shoot it last Wednesday but all day rain nixed that. Going to have a go at it Friday, weather permitting.

Well I guess I will start it out.  I assume you want the posts here.  Not a stellar performance but am still working up my loads.  Second time I shot this gun.  Should have gone with my hunting gun the 58 cal.

Name: Dave Marsh
Match: 50 yards
Rifle: .45 Flint Long Rifle
Sights: Fixed
Score: 26
