John Kincaid was a farmer and gunsmith in Boone County, Indiana. His farm was in the eastern part of the county, about eight miles east of Lebanon. Kincaid was born in Washington County, Pa., March 16, 1795 as the son of John and Martha Kincaid, and was the youngest of nine children. While young he was apprenticed to the cabinet trade and worked at that trade until he took up gunsmithing. When seventeen he served in the War of 1812, substituting for Robert Carr in August and served until November of that year.
In 1815 Kincaid married Miss Christina Pope of Ohio, and they lived together almost seventy years. They first resided in Trumble County, Ohio, until the spring of 1848, when they moved to Boone Co., Indiana. The first vote he ever cast was for James Monroe, and he always voted the Democratic ticket. Kincaid raised a family of six children. He lived a good life and was a hard-working man, gunsmithing being his favorite trade, and farming some through the summer season.
