Indian Trade Gun ?

Saw this listing, and despite having no interest in it personally, I am curious if this is actually a period piece.  I've never seen a buttstock like this before.

I think it was for the African trade.

It's a continuation of the old French Buccaneer musket.  I think those made for the African trade were made up until 1900 or a little later.

This looks like an early trade gun that has had its original stock reshaped do to resemble an earlier  buccaneer musket. When the reshaping happened, and by who,is the question that makes all the difference in its value.

Made for the African trade. I have seen these advertised clear into the 1930's. Many were painted red.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?
