Ian Pratt's Painted gun
« on: November 07, 2016, 06:24:52 PM »
Outstanding gun by Ian Pratt. I really like that. The subtle painted design-- seriously nice -- Is this a copy of an historically accurate treatment? I have seen painted guns that I am not so much fond of, but I like this a lot. very nice Mr. Pratt.

That is exceptionally cool. I'd have probably went with a fowling guard, but that's just me. Who ever it was built for or buys it will be getting a very interesting, unique gun.

Certainly is a beautiful piece of work! I never thought I'd like a painted gun but this one is just plain amazing!

The tang carving makes me think of the sun.  Great buttplate extension. Truly Artistic

I was able to get my hands on this one. So much to like and so much to find hiding in the work.

Yep, I got to handle this one at CLA this year as well.  If Ian keeps this up, he is going to turn into a pretty good gunmaker some day.  :D

Yes I especially liked the carving work around the breech tang and agree it reminded me of a sun burst. Have not seen anything quite like it in that area. I'd like to see a close up of it

Dave yes it is really a different affect. Was all over the gun at the CLA show too. Ian just does amazing work.  He also will go out of his way to help everyone. Someday soon I want to attend his classes.....Mike

I guess I'll be the odd man out on this party, I'm not much for painted gun except the faux strips on Lemans and such.  The paint job is the best out of all I've seen, just not my thing.  Everything else about the rifle is great, I also like the carving around the tang.

I also saw this at CLA.  WOW !  Liked it and all of Ian's work so much I had him put my name on his waiting list.  Only five more years to go....

Although I am primarily an antique longrifle collector, every piece of Ian's work stops me in my tracks. Not only is he an outstanding gunsmith of any era, Ian's creativity is amazing.
