Not a world class buck...but it will taste good. This is my first deer with a flintlock, or any muzzleloader for that matter. The rifle that I took him with this morning is the first rifle that I stocked.....I'm glad the photo isn't zoomed in on the rifle! ;D

Thanks to all for the nice comments.
Smylee, The rifle was built from a TVM Early Lancaster kit.(My fault it isn't a looker, not TVMs...lol, was a good kit, especially for my skill level.) I built it after returning from overseas almost a decade ago..it has a Siler lock, and a  .50 Rice barrel.
The load was a .490 ball with .10 pillow ticking ahead of 80 gr. Goex FFg. It broke the shoulder blade, and took out the lungs at about 20 yards or so.

Congratulations on such a fine deer.
I had some of my young buck for supper this evening.
It was incredible. Venison is always my number one choice for supper.
Even over brook trout and wild turkey.
Which, you have to admit, is tough to beat.
I am sure yours will taste just as good.
I am sure it is the first of many more deer to come with a flintlock.

Congratulations Tizzy nice deer. Just remember I've never had a  deer yet tell me my lock was wrong or the forearm had to much wood lol. It's your first rifle so you should always be proud of it. I built a Tullie from a kit an diffianatly off on the historical accuracy. But hey shot deer an turkeys with it. It is still my go to gun over all the other's I have. So be proud of your accomplishment the learning curve takes time......oldtravler

Congratulations, Tizzy.  You will always remember that first buck taken with a flintlock; I remember mine, vividly.  Actually, I'd like to see a better picture of the rifle; it probably isn't as bad as you imagine.  It obviously is a fine shooter and takes game as efficiently as one from a master builder.

I would just like to say that all of the positive comments are very encouraging. Previously, I have mostly been what would be considered as a lurker on this forum, I will try and change that. Between work and three kids I haven't had much time for building rifles or even hunting for that matter. I have however  learned a lot by reading all the posts you men have put on here, and I hope one day to be able to contribute some worthy information back to the forum. I guess all I'm trying to say is thank you to everyone on the board that I have learned so much from.

Good on ya, Tizzy.  I'm also hoping to take my first deer with a muzzleloader soon.   And I won't have the privilege of taking one with a rifle that I assembled.

In which branch do you serve?

Boones,  I served in the US Army, then later the Army National Guard. My MOS was Infantry. It was the greatest honor of my life to be able to searve  our Nation! Now, on to taking your first deer with a muzzleloader...it truly will be special...whether you assembled the rifle or not!
