Family long rifle, your opinions?
« on: January 16, 2017, 04:18:34 AM »
I've just received some photos of a rifle that has stayed in the family since the civil war. As the stories go it was hidden in a hollow tree to keep it being taken by confederates that would comb the country for weapons.  Some time later it was restocked because of it's poor condition. I believe that it was. I hope some of you can share your thoughts on it. The family had at some time lived in Tennessee and before the war had moved to Missouri. It is full stocked with a back action lock and at this point no lettering has been detected. There are four screws holding the butt plate and there had been a stud and screw at he muzzle. Front sight is sliver on an iron base and full buck horn rear sight.

A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
