Horn In The Tansel Style By The Two Tims
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:50:16 AM »
Here are a few Pix of a horn that Tim Albert and I worked on, it is not necessarily a copy of a Tansel horn, more of "in the style of". The horn is about 14" around the outside curve, 11" tip to butt. The Walnut base is about 2 1/2" held in by 4 pins, the finial is a separate piece. The Tip is also Walnut and held in place with 3 pins. Any questions on the finish will have to be answered by Tim it is his mixture and Beautifully done.
Tim did a neat job on the carving, Eagle, Dog and High Hatted Gentleman with a flintlock, the Pix do not do his work Justice. For one thing you cannot see "Who Shot Cock Robin" carved around one top edge.
Always a pleasure working with Tim.

That's some decent folky looking scrim.  At least what I can see is.  However, it would be so much better on a lighter colored horn.  I gave up scriming on dark mottled horns for this very reason,.....its barely visible, and usually you have to be a foot away in bright sunlight.  Good work here, but can't really be appreciated under most conditions.

I like the unique style.  I personally hadn't seen one like that before with the two fish-mouths.

The finish imparts a true antique feel.

Well done guys!

Best wishes,   Marc

Thanks Marc, the horn is similar to one in Dresslar's "The Engraved Powder Horn" pg 215. You can also Google Tansel horns and see Pix of many.
