Need pewter repair

Just scored a neat little pewter mug that needs some repair to the edge of the base--a slight tear. Any recommendations for a craftsman capable would be appreciated. I'm tempted to use it as-is, but would probably do further damage. Thanks.

Wouldn't one of those small micro-torches do the trick?
