Heres a little knife i recently finished up. A bout a 4" blade forged from hayrake tine, through tang peened over a washer.

I like that one. The flow of the stag and blade work well. I also like that it doesn't have a huge crown on the end. Neat color you achieved too on the stag. Best wishes, and God Bless, Marc

Thanks for the compliments. I like this size of knife , they carry well and still big enough to work with. This one is on its way to its new home, where i think it'll see a lot of use skinning deer, turkey & hogs.

I like hay rake tines. Most oil hardens OK. Had some that I had to water harden once. How do you temper? Do you harden and temper the whole blade?

On this particular blade i did a point down quench of the whole blade,in warm canola oil, stoping short of where the blade & tang meet. I drew the temper from the spine. I heat until the edge is brown with a little purple starting to show and the spine is a deep blue. On bigger blades i sometimes differentially harden the blade by heating the cutting edge and quenching before the spine is up to hardening heat.

The knife got to its new owner about 1:00 today, by 4:00 Tim had already killed and dressed a hog with it ! I knew it'd get put to use but i didnt think it would be that fast. The rifle was built by Mark Silver.

Update on the little knife. I field dressed, skinned and processed the hog with the knife and it will still shave the hair off your arm. Joe makes a fine knife and this may be my favorite. Yep it is a pig stikker maybe tomorrow I can try it out on boss hog. Hard job but someone has to do it. Tim
