Bucks County Progress
« on: June 23, 2017, 07:26:48 PM »
Rec'd the 3.5 X LED  OptiVisor and it took a little bit of getting used to....the focal length is only 4", but I can see better than w/ the 2-1/2X. The LED  lighting arrangement adds to the bench lighting and I feel that the lighting can't be improved at all.

Not intentionally prolonging this last build but it just sits there most of the time and has become  2nd priority to my wife's Alzheimers.

As I said before, stuff that was easily done prior to when the macular degeneration worsened is now amazingly done and is really celebrated as an accomplishment as if it were the I work I did as a beginner.

Anyways here's some pics of the progress of a BC started from a blank. By the way....this is in no way a complaint or a plea for sympathy. I can now realize how the gunsmiths of yore felt when their eyesight failed and their income dropped noticeably. Many became blacksmiths, farmers or tavern keepers when fairly young w/o further contributions to gun building......Fred

Looking very nice to me Fred. I especially like the long slender wrist and positioning of the lock plate and side plate. To me,
the lines of the plates look best when they follow the panel lines and the tails point down the center of the wrist. Keep up the good work.

Keep on keeping on. Looks great. Looking forward to seeing more. I have to agree as we get older, the difficultys faced by our predecessors are brought to our attention more and more. We are so fortunate to be working in these times. Just look around at our community here, at how many would have had to  discontinue the work we love and enjoy so much, not to mention how many of us would probably be dead by now. Yes, we are so very fortunate. Keep on keeping on Sir.      Bob

Hi Fred,
Your work with ailing eyes is better than most with perfect sight.  It is looking very nice indeed.

Fred, Don`t put on your tavern keeper`s apron too quickly here. As was stated your work still looks very nice . As a long time fan of Lehigh/ Bucks type guns/rifles I always enjoy your work. Thanks for posting. Nate

Fred,
Great looking Bucks County rifle as always.  When the rifle is finished, no one will care how long it took you to complete it.  Slow and steady wins the race.  Like you, and probably most of us today, except Mike Brooks,  I got the slow part down.
