1st attemp at a horn with a turned plug.
« on: July 17, 2017, 08:56:53 PM »
I bought a small horn the other day and decided to try a turned plug. I've made a couple horns in the past with carved plugs.

Here is my poor attempt at a horn with a turned plug, fitted by boiling the horn and pushing it on the plug. I used forged iron nails to attach it. The wood is black walnut. The stopper is hickory.

It turned out better than I expected when I bought the little horn. It's 7" long and with the hollowed plug, should hold at least 1/2 pound of powder.

Used a jute cord.

Nice job there sir.  As Tim said, they are addictive.  He should know!

That horn deserves a strap from Kris Polizzi.

Best wishes, and God Bless,  Marc

Very good looking little horn. I wouldn't call it a poor attempt at all.

I wish my first attempt at a turned base plug looked that good, If it had I wouldn't have tossed it in the wood stove. Nice work on the entire horn. I would be proud of it and I am the real John Proud. The joke will never end.
