Horn/W Single Band & A Little Carving
« on: December 02, 2017, 06:04:02 PM »
It is about 15 1/2" around the outside curve and 12 1/2 tip to tip. The Walnut Butt is about 2 1/2" and held in by Eight wooden pegs. The Two part Antler tip is pinned together with Three wood pegs and to the horn with Three more. The band is held in place by Three more. I used AF first for some color but got some weird shades so I put some Saddle Tan Dye on it, still have a couple of spots I'm not to happy with, still may go back and rework it. A little Brown shoe polish helped some.
The neat Deer/Dog/Chase scene was done by Marcruger, it is very well done and I have a feeling we will be seeing more of Marc's work. Thanks Marc.

 Tim C.

Nice work Tim and Marcruger. The dog and deer engraving certainly have a southern look about them as it was almost the only way deer were hunted in the deep south many years ago.

Great horn by two fine fellows. I have always  enjoyed Tim's work and now we can look forward to Marc's next venture into the longrifle culture. Tim you may have another Renaissance man on your heels there.

Thank you for the kind words. Tim did all of the hard work, I just tried not to ruin it. Tim wanted "primitive" engraving..... He came to the right place! Lol.
I have some ideas for some more engraving on horns, and hope they work out.
My thanks to Ron, Bob and Richard for the encouragement.
Best wishes and God Bless, Marc
