Most times a 2" group will put you in with the wana be's as the scoring rings on the x-stix and light bench targets are only 1/2" or a little less wide so a 2" group can take in a lot of different point values. I know this from my own scores and targets.

I acquired a 58 cal barrel 42 inches long 1-72 twist the barrel has no mfg name on it
8 groves thin rifling
Anyone have any experience with this type of barrel is a 58 accurate for bench use?

You are right smylee - the hortonstn cannot achieve what he wants, with a 2" group.

Hortonstn, If you don't already have one, get a P.A.S.T. pad for when you shoot from the bench or x-stix. They help quite a bit and can keep you concentrating on the sights because you will know the recoil is more tolerable and you won't flinch thinking of the recoil.

Another suggestion is to use a 2" wide, mostly flat English style butt plate. It will fit the pad better and will also 'absorb' (spread out) the recoil. 

My 14 bore is quite easily shot off the bags, when using a PAST recoil pad.  Recoil Reduction and quick to the shoulder is the reason for wide

flattish butts on English guns meant for heavily loaded, dangerous game rifles.

In a post by Flint62Smoothie he suggests shooting 1F powder,( he has a .75 jaeger ) no apparent kick as compared to a slow shove.
This is foreign to me too, but I will try anything to improve shooting, accuracy, and comfort of shooting.
You may not get stellar velocities, but does that really matter.
I did try it years ago in a shotgun, patterns were good and kill was effective, but I did not associate it to rifle shooting.
So this is new to me. Get some from someone and try it..........who knows you may become another advocate .

Reminds me of a trail at Helfley one year. Taylor showed up on the line, with his .40 Kuntz longrifle, but with a horn filled with 1F GOEX.  He did hit a few, but not just about all of them, like normal.

Shoulder recoil pad, soft cheek pad, and don't flinch.

The first real muzzle loader I made was a 33",one inch across the flats 58 caliber.
It was a match winner.It was also the first octagon barrel Bill Large made when he
got his big shop finished in 1958.I made it into a walnut half stock rifle with silver
butt plate and trigger guard and single set trigger.IF I were to make another it
would be stocked like an English long range rifle with shotgun butt.

One thing I forgot,that barrel had a 1 in 44" twist and I used 65 grains of DuPont
3fg  or Curtis&Harvey.

We shot a lot of that Hartless and Scurvy powder, back in the 60's and 70's.
About mid 1970's I came across some DuPont, then Meteor brand from Scotland.
