Virginia Horn
« on: December 11, 2017, 05:03:06 PM »

Idea from the horn on page 311 of Jay Hopkins book; Bone Tipped & Banded Horns. It has no carving but the original does, some may be added.
It is 13" around the outside curve and 9 1/2 tip to tip. The Walnut Butt is held in with 4 iron pins, 4 more hold the Band in place, Iron staple for strap The tip on the original is broken off so from the collar up is imagination, it is of 1 piece of horn, the very tip is Pewter. The tip is held by 3 wooden pegs. Color is AF with a little dye over it.

Hey!  That one came out sharp Tim.  Very crisp turnings.  I think you made the right choice on the tip.  That pewter part really sets the whole thing off with unexpected eye candy.  I am glad you are having fun with Jay's book.  You do have to sleep sometime though.  ;-)   Heh, heh.   Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

Beautiful horn Tim. I haven’t quite figured out the pewter tips but I like them.
