Where and when?
« on: February 04, 2018, 03:50:10 AM »
This is a neat little folding knife. I don't know much about it but suspect it is middle eastern.  I'm guessing 19th century but really don't know. Any ideas or comments would be helpful.  Thanks   Jim

To my eye, the carved figure looks Polynesian/Pacific Island in design. I have no factual basis for that observation. It's just what comes to mind.

I couldn't even begin to guess the age.

I think it's from the Mediterranean area myself, maybe as early as the 18th century. There are Spanish and Italian knifes with blades of that design.

Thanks , guys for your input. I had thought it might be as early as late eighteenth century  but I tend to want things  to date a little earlier than they are. Jim

Looks like a fancifully decorated penny knife.
Dating may be difficult.
