Got my Tip Curtis French Fowler

Well got my gun from tip the other day. Haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. I am going to finish up the metal first. It was one of his in the white kits. 42” 20ga otr barrel. Walnut stock with several coats of linseed oil. This is my first flintlock so I am excited to get shooting and hopefully get a turkey with it this spring. I need to get the details on lock type and not sure on barrel brand. Not sure how close it is to a actually fusil de chasse, but I am excited about it. I haven’t found any pics of this gun before so I thought I would post it for people to see.

Don't use linseed oil - without dryers, linseed oil takes a very long time to dry and isn't really weather-proof either. I suggest a gun finish like Tru-oil, Chambers' Oil finish or numerous other options available.

Yeah that wasn’t my choice. Tip’s guns come like that is what he told me. What would be the best way to finish the stock when it already has linseed applied?

FWIW,
I only use linseed, often raw but cut with turpentine.     Maybe the turps  makes it a no problem finish.

V nice build there!  Look forward to seeing it finish'd.

Tip usually uses mostly Colerain barrels on his smoothbore builds.

Take the lock out and look at the back side , it could be M/G or A for Allen .

But he also uses Chambers as well as L&R locks.

Great lookin gun Congrats  Let us know how it shoots .

Gave Tip a call today. Mike you are right, it is an L&R trade lock. The barrel is a Colerain. Here are a couple other pics.

Looks like this one might have enough drop at the comb, not to smack you every shot- some of those French designs do.
