Seeking Information on Muzzleloader Shotgun
« on: February 22, 2018, 04:38:13 PM »
I am seeking information on the pictured shotgun. I inherited from my father who owned it for at least 50 years. I believe that is English but I am not certain.

Any information that the forum can provide will be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Randy

Hard to read your rule since its not straight across the widest part of the bore but it must be at least a 10 GA which should be .775 inches. Nice looking double in what appears to be great condition.

The gun was made by Lewis and James as engraved on the locks.  I find lots of Lewis' and lots of James' but no Lewis & James.  Remove the barrel and post close-up pic of the proof marks at the breech end of the barrel.

TOF ... I'd be happy to post the photo that you've requested .... can you provide instructions on how to remove the barrel as you mention?

Thanks,

Randy

That appears to be a Lewis & Tomes shotgun. They were a partnership importing English made arms to New York.  Most of the Lewis & Tomes guns are marked London on top of the barrel or rib.

To remove the barrels, put the hammers on 1/2 cock, remove the ram rod, pull out the barrel key ( it may be fastened to the stock with a hidden pin). Lift the barrels at the muzzle and they should pull away from the tang at the breech.

$300 - $500 CDN...how's that for a suggestion?  Seriously, I don't think it's a Cadillac

I put a price of ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS on everything and negotiate down from there.
