Interesting old horns
« on: March 01, 2018, 05:44:43 AM »
I found this link to a National Park Sevice collection of 18-19 th century powder horns with a couple of them being very unique. Thought I would pass this along for those who haven’t seen it as some inspiration.

Thanks for posting that, pretty neat. My favorites, the primers and flatties. That Dog Head is over the top.

I really liked the priming horn with a spring gizmo to release powder. Makes me wish I still had a forge.

I really like folk art that incorporates animals. My long rifle has a brass patchbox in the shape of a horse and I also have a loading block sawed in the shape of a horse. I even glued tow on its rump for a tail.

I think a powder horn with a wooden screw tip carved like a hounds head would be very cool.

really neat horns. That little flat horn with the screw on cap is cool, would like to see some other photos and get a better idea of the size.
