Brass powder flask for cased "Big bang Dragoons".
« on: March 17, 2018, 11:50:13 AM »
I'd like to thank Smart dog for his help and advice with this project.

I was given a busted brass pipe thats 45mm(1.77") in diameter with a 4,5mm(0.16") thick walls.

I cut off a 10cm(4.0") length and turned down the walls to 1/8"

The caps were made from an old brass sign found in the junk at a hospital. It's 7mm (0.27") thick.

I use a round  table to mill out the caps.

The caps are soft solderd on. The spring is made from 1/16" springstock from Brownell.

Best regards
Rolf

It is indeed very nice work Rolf.  My only concern is the flasks inherent danger of becoming a pipe bomb.  I have some of those brass pan chargers from muzzle loading supply places, and I drilled a half inch hole in the sides of the tube covered with a glued on piece of leather.  I'm not sure if that's enough of a vent, but it makes me feel better.

Thank you all for the kind comments.
I agree about the danger. Which is why I plan to keep it empty. I made it because some type of powder flask is traditional With cased pistols. No powder flasks containing powder are allowed at Our shooting range. As a saftey precaution, all powder charges must be measured oustside the range and  kept in corked plastic vials at the range.
