I got it for Christmas and have enjoyed it and I haven't even tried to engrave anything yet. It's a very interesting and informative book. Worth having in my opinion.

Yes. Buy it. It's a really well laid out book. Clear, easily understood text and awesome illustrations.

Definitely....it has replaced Meeks outdated book and is currently the industry standard manual.

Great book. Very informative.  Good training regimen.
Only caveat is don't take the contemporary English style engraving as historical as it is just that... contemporary art based on English styling .. Very few, if any 18th century English pieces held that much engraving IMO.

I agree with the consensus :  buy the book.  And I also agree with James:  most of his guns are over engraved if there's such a thing.  I for one am caught up in the style.  the information on gravers and engraving borders is invaluable.

James & Taylor do have a point. Mr. Schippers even mentions that he gets carried away a couple of times in the text.

I agree with everyone! with out a doubt buy the book. After 5 minutes of reading I asked myself why I waited so long to buy this book. It is well worth the money and actually seems in expensive once you realize the information it contains.

Even if you never manage anything more than a faint scratch on a piece of metal, the book is still worth it, it has so much info and the illustrations are just plain old eye candy. You won't be disappointed.

As all have said, it is presently the best book on engraving and technique out there.  His engraving patterns are not those usually found on American Longrifles.  Generally, American colonial period engraving is much less sophisticated than that which Shippers illustrates.  You can learn a lot and apply it as you wish.  Ron

The book should be here Monday, according to tracking! Looking forward to seeing what I can learn! Here is a practice plate I've been mucking with.. mainly to try and gain control of the hammer and gravers I have made.
