I found what appears to be a Japanese made Dixie Arms Tennessee rifle with German silver mountings (I haven't seen that online yet) and it has some issues.

The small issue is it has what appears to be an incorrect ram rod.

On the more serious side the bore is evenly rusted throughout but there were no deep or large pits and the rifling were extremely strong throughout. The frizzen, and main springs seem weak to me but maybe that's normal when I'm comparing it to my chambers lock at home on another gun. Strangely the vent hole is rusted shut but it has a screw in vent liner it appears and the ram rod goes all the way to the breech plug so it doesn't seem blocked.

I'm thinking I could scour or lap the rust out of the barrel and get it shooting again.

It is a 50 Cal and has a s
Solid though rather malfitting stock. Also the triggers function as they should

They want $329 plus tax for it and I'm not sure that they would come down another $100 but I'm also not sure what guns in this condition go for. That's what I need help with.

I'd probably offer them $265.00 and consider sending the barrel to Bobby for a reline.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

It's junk. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean you should buy it.

M1,
Remember, you get what you pay for. I agree this is not a good buy at any price.

I wouldn't take it for free.

But it's WORTH every dollar they can get out of it--to the seller.  And it's WORTH every dollar he/she agrees to give for it at the time of purchase to the Buyer.  Used goods values are always defined that way to me.

I don't want it either.  So I'm with Mike it's worth squat to me.  But others might pay that to hang in on a wall and never think twice about it.  So it's worth something to them... blah yadda blah.  :P

I just have other things and ideas vying for my money and efforts, so that's why it has no value to me (and Mike).  I am not you.   ;)

--wait whut, it's rusty?!!   absolutely no frogthumpin' way.

I understand and agree with you guys. I do need to watch what I spend right now unless I don't want a hunting season. I get bored easily and want a new flint lock to play with.

You could build a 500 year old Tanegashima rifle from it.  Roy Weatherby and John Browning would spit fire if they saw made in Japan stamped on their brand.

I think the question has been answered. I am locking this thread.
