Shot Horn

 My attempt at a horn to hold shot. It is about 11" around the outside curve, the Pine base is about 2 1/4" fit into the natural opening and held in place with Four groups of Three Steel pins, a staple and ring for the strap.. The Spout is Walnut and Beach, it is held in place by Three nails that also hold the band that the strap ring is on. If used as a measure the Spout throws about 1 Oz of shot. To get the color the horn was boiled in a mixture of Brown dye followed by Brown shoe polish and buffed.
 Not sure I am happy with the functional part but will keep experimenting.

Pretty neat!  Where do you keep coming up with these ideas?  Definitely gonna have to keep this in mind, for when I actually get around to building a fowler.

 Greg,
 I saw a ball pouch in Karl Smith's Gettin' The Lead Out page 237. The pouch uses a Cider Vinegar Bung so I thought I would try one with a horn body, I have used the same type spout on ball horns in the past.
 Here are some more spouts that I made up, they need to be finished:

I had one without the fancy nozzle about thirty five years ago. It worked well, but was way too noisy. It was like having a moraca around your neck. If you don’t hunt with it it will serve you well.

Tim, thanks for the reference, and the extra photos. Those are some nice lookin’ valves...I never would’ve thought of using one as a shot dispenser. This is why I like hanging around on this site...always something to learn from you guys!

Very nice Tim.  I have seen the pictures of the originals and have been tempted to make a horn / spout like the one you posted for several years.  Your horn and valve look great.  Bravo!

As usual, very well done. I just don''t know if I want to carry that much shot, gets pretty heavy. A smaller version could also be used for a ball horn. I have a flat horn that carries ball and caps in a small compartment in the base. I'll show it to you.

Very nice work Tim.

I was thinking about something similar for my .32 the other day. I was knocking around the idea of a flat horn with a spout opening big enough for .32 balls.
