Left handed edition of the famed Edward Marshal rifle. 42" .62 Rice barrel. Caywood lock, Davis triggers, mostly all Chambers brass hardware. 9 3/4 lbs.

Very nice rendition of this famous rifle! In a "lefty" to boot! As usual , all the work looks great! What really "grabs" me on this one are the beautiful tones and colors of BOTH wood and metal. Very warm believable look. Very Nice!!! Nate

Nice looking rifle but I would have thought with a 42" 62 caliber barrel it would have been lighter than 9.75 lbs, must be due to that left-handed lock

I was surprised too. Must be in the barrel profile. I don't know if this is a standard profile for Rice or not. But, all in all such weight in a .62 is not a bad thing, gonna really help with recoil. It carries well and holds well too.
Come to think on it....The buttplate is 5" X 2 1/4" wide and the wrist is 1 5/8" tall, plus the lock bolster on this lock is really thick too. I suppose all of that extra wood will add some to the weight. This is a BIG gun, doesn't really show off it's size in the pictures.

Unfortunately, both shoulders are begging for mercy. Can't go as fast as I used to.

There has been some interest in this gun so I think I should point out this gun was built as an ordered "spoke for" gun and is not for sale. Just happened to be the next gun at the top of the "list".

Definitely good looking and the color is gorgeous. One thing, however, it's too heavy and a lefty; but I'll let it slide this one time.

Analyne (SP?) dyes starting with canary yellow followed by a couple different shades of brown. Rubbed back until I like what I see.
The finish is 5 or 6 coats of tung oil followed by Rustoleum flat black all rubbed back followed by several coats of black Bri Wax.
The steel is rusted with a browning solution till it has a pitted texture then all the rust is sanded off.

Now, If I could just carve as well as you I'd be a very happy fellow.

Mike, you have created a warm, homey rifle there. Note that I did NOT say homily! It has a warmth and texture that indicates it would be a joy to carry, shoot, and admire in the home gun case.

Hope I will be half as good with this Rupp that I am building.

I truly enjoy looking at this piece, and will keep your Rustoleum finish in mind.
