Jon Laubach Williamsburg rifle 1973
« on: July 06, 2018, 11:30:16 PM »
Jon Laubach a true gentleman and a fine riflesmith passed to the other side today. I thought I would post pictures of one of his early rifle for everyone to see. Even though certainly not one if Jon's fanciest  rifles I feel honored to hold it for awhile  until it is passed on to the next generation. Tim Cosby

A fine man. A great teacher and inspiration.

I spent many days over a few years with Jon and Chris in the Dixon’s blacksmith shed in the early 2000’s.

My most sincere condolences to Chris and their family.

Jon was a first class guy, always a gentleman when I was around him. Sad to know he has passed on.

Condolences on the passing of this fine gentleman and rifle maker.

The pictures that you posted are, for me, a fine legacy of passing down superlative work.

That is an excellent rifle. Never met him personally. I didn't realize he was at Williamsburg so early.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Thanks for all of the kind comments on Jon's rifle. It looks and feels even better in hand. I wanted to get a picture of Jon and the rifle together maybe even with my ugly mug in the photo. The only time I saw Jon was at the CLA three or four years back. I carried the rifle to the CLA the next year but Jon wasn't there. I'll probably kill a deer with it this fall then put it up til the next generation  uses it. Tim

That is a lovely rifle, and I am sure you cherish it.  It definitely shows its place of origin with the distinctive Colonial Williamsburg triggerguard.  God Bless,  Marc
