The screw I am needing help with is on a Bob Roller lock, which I really like.

It has flawless workmanship, and parallel sided screw slots.

It's a great lock, and I don't want to goober up the screws.

The .025 blade from one of the sets mentioned above almost fits it.

I have ordered another set that might have the blade I need, and if not, I will hand file a blade down so I don't overheat it.

I thought this would be a simple thread, but it is now filled with lots of great information.

Thank you to all the posters.

See you at CLA,

Martin

A Chapman screw driver set should cover all your screw driver needs.

Best,

I bought the Chapman set, and the Wheeler set.  I think I am covered for a little while at least.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Here is my bench ‘set’ of screwdrivers. I like wood handles. I buy them for almost nothing at flea markets and shape the tips as I need them. In the corner of the shop is a can full of them should I need to grind one to a different shape to fit a specific screw I haven’t met yet. The mongrel mix helps me readily identify which one I need.

Which screw is it that has a parallel slot? I've use the
V" configuration for many years and a screw driver filed
to fit so it will be wedged in the screw head.

Bob, I just looked at it again, and you are correct, the screw in question, which is the one that holds the hammer on, does indeed have a slight taper or "v" shape to the slot.

I guess that is why my Grace screwdriver, which has parallel sides, does not bottom out in the slot.

Sorry for the confusion.  It is a thin slot, perhaps .024 or around there.

My apologies for the inaccuracy of my post.  I had to look really close to see the taper.

I've used a chapman set for years on WWII and now flintlock rifles and have no complaints.  It seems like the set always has a bit that fits perfect.  They had a smaller and cheaper set at one time.

Thanks so much for recommending us! We've been making hollow ground firearm style screwdrivers in Durham, CT since 1936. You can alter our bits if you keep them under 400 degrees so it won't mess with the heat treating. Our slotted bits are all available open stock for $1.35 each  ;D https://chapmanmfg.com/collections/individual-parts/products/slotted-insert-bits?variant=901985127
