Finally done!
« on: August 14, 2018, 03:32:14 AM »
Well after years on the waiting list and just over two years in the making I have MY first new gun since my original build in 1978.  I hope it shoots as well as my old reliable.  It definitely looks better.  ;D
Here's a few more pictures.  Including the before and after polished lock as requested.

Thanks for looking.

Jeff

That is really fine!  Can't wait to see it in person.

Jeff, your patience and hard work have really paid off!  That is a super looking rifle, and I think most any of us would be proud to have it in our collection.
If it shoots as good as it looks, you are going to have to build a new mantle to house all the ribbons and trophies.
Can you educate us on the finish?  Love the color!

Really nice work.  I like how crisp and clean everything went together, and in spite of good coverage with carving, it is understated.

It's plain to see you took your time and executed everything very nicely.  She's a beauty.  Nice job.

Thanks all.

The wood is stained with one coat of homemade aqua fortis, followed by a coat of LMF Nut Brown.

The finish is a base coat of Tried and True Varnish Oil applied liberally all over, allowed to soak in for 10 to 15 minutes, then excess removed with soft lint free cloth.
After that, it was followed by 5 or 6 six very thin coats applied with cotton rag stretched over my finger tip and rubbed in with a cloth or bare hand.

Hope that's helpful.

Not my second build.

This is the second gun made for myself.

Didn't mean to mislead anyone.  Approx 12th or 13th overall.
