Longrifle Show Wallet
« on: September 09, 2018, 04:15:30 AM »
This latest project is not technically "historically correct", but it was made for a function.  I made it for a good friend to use at longrifle shows. It looks plausibly HC on the outside as a flint wallet, but the inside holds pockets for money, business cards and license instead of flints.

It was a fun project, and like usual, I ruined two pieces of leather before getting one I was happy with.

I hope y'all get a kick out of it.  God Bless and best wishes,  Marc

Very nice. What weight leather did you use?

Hi webradbury,  The leather is 2-3 ounce.  Any thicker and it'd be hard to get it to fold and roll up flat. Easy to make project in concept.  I found the actual application to take a bit of brain work to get the tooling and pockets where I wanted them.  God Bless,   Marc

Very nice work, a very classy way to carry money and cards. Historically correct or not, I like it. The buckle is beautiful, do you start with a more standard purchased buckle and file the decoration or do you have a source for neat historic buckles?

Really a sweet piece and the buckle is a eye catcher for sure. It shows attention to details.

Many thanks folks.  I am still learning with each piece of leatherwork.

The buckle is cast by Richard Lanni.  He has a Facebook page where he markets his historic buckles. I believe that he casts these off of originals.

Best wishes to all, and God Bless,   Marc

Very nice Mark. I use an arc effect for entrances to pockets on many of my modern pieces. I like thr effect.

Marc, that’s the neatest thing since sliced bread. I’m gonna have to make one for myself.  I think that I can saw that buckle out of a piece of 1/8” sheet brass, and file to shape...hmmmm...
