Kibler hunting load?
« on: September 25, 2018, 03:15:12 AM »
Finally think I have found my Mule deer load for my .40 caliber Kibler SMR. The outer ring is approx. 5 - inches across, the red bull is approx. 2 1/2 - inches across.
Distance: 65 yards
Powder 65 grains Goex 3F
.395 Hornady grease patched round ball.
Shots 7 & 8 in the picture were my first two shots.  9 & 10 in the picture were my 3rd and fourth shots.
After figuring out my hold (never have shot at this distance with this load). The 6 remaining were all were covered by a 2 1/2 inch spread.

That should bring,em down. I personally quit hunting mule deer when I could not keep ten rounds in a 2 1/2 circle. @ sixty yards
All gave some Some gave all

You should also be getting very respectable velocity with that load.

I think in some states, .40 is legal for deer.

Some states, .45 is the minimum.

So the answer is, it depends on your state.

To Bigmon: yes in Oregon .40 is legal for deer, antelope, black bear, and cougar. Elk, big horn sheep and Rocky Mountain goat require .50 caliber or larger.
