Horn W/Screw Tip & Collar
« on: March 13, 2019, 07:00:49 PM »
Taken from the horn on page 240 of Jay Hopkins book Bone Tipped & Banded Horns.
It is about 16 1/2" around the outside curve and 13 tip-to-tip, about an inch off from the original. The Maple butt is about 2 3/8", it is hollowed out about 3/4s its length, a steel staple goes through it and is bent over on the inside, it is held with 4 Brass pins.
The tip and collar are both Cow horn threaded 5/8-11 nc as is the horn itself. The color is darker than the original and I left off the grove cut just below the collar.

That’s another dandy, for sure!  I’ve gotta get some of my spring chores done so I can get back in the workshop...

What an interesting domed base plug on that one.  Jay's book is a super source of inspiration for your horn work.
