Two targets from Dudley.
« on: October 03, 2018, 04:55:07 AM »
Well gents, as it's snowing like mad right now and I can't get on with harvest or anything, here are a couple of targets me and Dudley shot last weekend.
Dudley is that wee short snapping matchlock.
There is a lot of room for improvement, and we were both blaming the other one!
As he doesn't have a shoulder-stock and a bit much drop for a cheek stock, (just like the original)  he is certainly different to hold on to, but feels fantastic when he goes off!
He's very fast at going off as well, and only refused once,....... when I forgot to open the pan!

I do like him.    Charge was 75 grains of Go 2F, a  20-bore felt wad, and a .60 cal ball for first target, then for second, same powder and a wad, but another wad over the ball.
This second trial put 3 shots more or less touching, (Only at 25 yards )  and others as spread out as the first trial.  I think we need more practice and with different loads, but he Is fun to shoot with!
Both groups were off-hand.

Best, meself.

You never can tell these days, Daryl!
Actually, Dudley was a Jack Russell type terrier, small, but deadly. He was made famous by his owner, Colin Willock.   ("Dudley, the worst dog in the world")

Maybe it was built to put against the center of your chest for aiming. They had a name for the style....can't remember now.

BTW, having to already deal with snow would really bum me out. We're going to hit 86* today...don't know how that translates into Canadian, but it's going to be HOT! ;D

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike,
Yes, I sort of put corner of butt against my chest, near collar -bone, but way off the shoulder.

Re weather, when they changed over to Celsius, they forgot to change me over, so I know hot better in  degrees F than C!
Bright this morning but well below freezing, and maybe 6" snow.

Freezing at night here and has been for a week. No snow yet.  7 days ago, we were running the air conditioner in our travel Trailer in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Hanshi,

It wouldn't have looked as good if I'd shot it at 100 yards!
Will keep you posted when I get another go.
